 To help me with my final magazine cover, My task was to take a few shots of a 'band' using different camera techniques. After taking many shots, we had to pick one to use on our poster that we had to create using Adobe Photoshop elements.

This is a final poster of the shot above.

As you can see we edited our shot so it would be black and white. This makes the poster look more effective and different. Also the text and the kicker is in black and white which makes the poster look more professional as their is no clashing colours. We cropped the image, so we could see less background. This lets the audience focus on the two main stars rather than the background. The shot is off two girls standing one behind each other. This makes the shot look more effective as if is different to the stars standing next to each other. The two girls have no expression on their face which fits into the genre R&B as they look quite serious but yet glamorous.

Research -Target Audience

The Genre of my magazine is going to be R&B, therfore my target audience will be teenagers and some university students both femailes and males aged between 15-24.  To engage my target audience into reading my magazine i will use many conventions related to R&B genre which will interest my audience. From the Magazine front covers I have analysed I have realised that the shots taken show the artists full body. This shows the audience what exactly the artists is wearing. Also their outfits they are wearing are quite revealing therfore this makes them look more attractive and this is very eye catching for some teenagers. I will have to make sure that the models for my magazine cover does similar poses and wears simliar outfits to fit in with the genre and to make the magazine look more attractive. Main colour used on the magzine cover are blue, therefore the magazine covers are bright and stands out.

Camera Angles

I researched many camera angles to help me with my final magazine cover. This shot of Beyonce is a medium long shot. This shot has been posed for because you can see the telephone that Beyonce is holding, is held in a unusual way. One of Beyonce's leg has been cropped out, however we can already see what shoes she is wearing but we can see as she has her foot on the bed. Multiple focus is used in this shot as Beyonce is looking at defferent angle rather than at the camera. Their is a good depth of feild used in this shot as we can the background, this tells us more about the shot where exactly Beyonce is.  The outfit that beyonce is wearing is very revealing, and makes her look attractive. This is very eye catching to many teenagers.

This camera shot is a medium close up of a band called Coldplay. This shot is in black and white which makes the image look more effective. As you can see all band members are standing one behind the other. This may suggest that they are all different. The members in this shot have all been cropped, we can not see the all the body, this makes the audience focus more on their face. They all have quiet serious/scary facial expressions which makes the audience think why.

Research - Contents 2

This contents page is from VIBE magazine. The word contents is spilt up into 3 and placed underneath each other. This is very effective as it is very unique. The font used for 'contents' is big, black and bold, this will catch the readers eye straight away. The other sections are written in different fonts, this makes the contents page look more professional.Also VIBE's content s page layout is the same which make the contents page well known as the word 'contents' will always be spilt up into 3. 

As you can see their is a large image on this contents page of the singer Ciara. She is lying on her back with her legs in the air. This is eye catching as Ciara is in a unusual position. There is text on both sides of Ciara.

Ciara is wearing an outfit which is very revealing to show of her body. This will catch many male and female teenagers eye as she looks very attractive. Also she has a straight face which shows she is not smiling or frowning. This is mysterious as we don't know if it is good information or bad information about Ciara which makes the reader more interested.

The colour scheme for this contents page is black and white. The background is black, with a cirlce of white on it to show it is a spot light on Ciara. This suggests that Ciara is the main focus in the magazine. By having only two colours makes the contents page look simple and not too flashy.

Research - Contents 1

The word 'Contents' is written very uniquely as it is not written in a straight line, it has been broken up into 3 and placed under each other. The font of the contents is big, black and bold which suggest it will catch the readers eye. The font that is used for the other sections is very formal as some of it is italic. By using different fonts make the contents page look more professional. The colour scheme for this contents page is plain black and white. This makes it look more effective because the only bit of colour is red heart which is placed on the singers body. This makes the contents page very eye catching because you can see the colour red straight away. The reason why vibe has a black and white background is so the artist stands out more. This will then attract most readers. The artist is wearing something that is in fashion, which will attract the target audience as many readers might have similar clothing.

Research - Double Page Spread 2

The title on this double page spread is very attractive. This is because it is very big and bold and it takes up most of the space on the double page spread. This is a good thing as the title will be the first thing the reader will see, which will get them reading more. The image on the right takes up the whole A4 page. This image is of Lily Allen. By looking at this image we know straight away the double page spread is about her. Th target audience of this magazine is teenagers, as Lily Allen's music is aimed at teenagers. The colours that are used are mainly black and white. We can see the layout is like a newspaper layout, their is a big headline and the text is in columns.Their are a few words that are in red, for example 'Lily Allen'. This is in red as the image is of her. Lily Allen is also wearing a red shirt. This makes the double page spread even more noticeable as the red shirt stands out.

Research - Double Page Spread 1

This double page spread was from a magazine called flavour. The target audience of this magazine are for teenagers,mainly girls that listen to RnB music. The layout of this magazine is very simple and easy to understand. The double page spread doesn't have a title which suggests you will need to read the the page to actually know what it is about. As you can see that the image of Alexandra Burke has taken up a full A4 page and the interview is on the left hand side with another image of Alexandra. Their is a paragraph which is in pink and it is larger than the other text. Also it is in capital letters which suggest this is the important information on the page. The paragraph is about how she cant believe how she has made it to where she is now. Which suggests that it doesn't matter where you are from or what your lifestyle is like,you are still able to succeed in life. This relates to the target audience as many girls are desperate to be famous singers and this will encourage them more.The image of Alexandra is a close up shot, this allows us to see the her facial expressions. The colours used in this double page spread are black and pink, this relates to the target audience as pink is stereo typed as a 'girly' colour. The background of the double page spread is white, this makes he double page spread look more  professional as the colours don't clash.The image that is placed with the interview shows that Alexandra is having a good time as she has done a 'wild' pose. This could relate to many teenager girls as they probably want to be like Alexandra when they grow up. Also this image a good impression on the teenagers that want to be RnB singer because Alex is showing that its fun being a singer and it it isn't always pressurising or depressing.

Research - Magazine 2

The genre of this magazine cover is RnB/Hip Hop. We know this as the image is off an RnB star also the straplines show that their is information on rappers as well. The target audience is male and female teenagers. We know this as it features musics stars that sing RnB/ Hip Hop music which teenagers will listen too. The image is of a well - known singer called Ciara..The main focus is this image of her as it is the only image on the front cover.This image relates to the msuic genre because Ciara sings RnB music. Ciara is placed on the right side of the magazine. We can see that her head is covering the 'B' in VIBE. This is fine as VIBE is a well-known magazine company, so many people will recognize it is a VIBE magazine because of the way it is written and also where it is positioned at the top, as the layout on all vibe magazines are the same. In the image, Ciara is wearing a short black dress which brings out her figure, this makes Ciara look even more attractive as teenagers will like what she is wearing because it is something that many teenagers girls will wear.  She is wearing dark eye make up too which matches with the dress. This shows that she took time and effort when taking the shot as she wanted to look her best.The colour of the dress goes with the background colour even though the background colour is blue. However towards the top of the magazine cover the blue gets darker, By the colours matching makes the magazine look more proffesional. In this image, Ciara is not smiling however she doesn't look angry either. By using the two blues relates to the image as it makes the front cover look mysterious.


The magazine is called VIBE, this is a big magazine company which provides the latest gossip on many RnB and Hip Hop celebrities. VIBE  means emotional atmosphere as many songs can be happy, sad, good or bad. This relates to the target audience as  teenagers prefer different types of music. The straplines on this front cover are all different fonts, sizes and colours. This makes it easier for the audience as they will read the big font first which would be the important straplines. By using different colours makes the front cover look more attractive.. They are put on the right side of the magazine as the main message is on the left which relates to the image. Also they used an image of her where we can see her figure as the message on the left mentions  'new body' which suggest Ciara has done somthing to her body to make it look like how it is now. The 'new Body' is in bold which suggests that this is one of the important pieces of information. Also 'Ciara' is big and bold as the image is off her. The barcode is on the bottom left corner.

Research - Magazine 1

The music genre of this magazine is RnB. In this magazine it will include many celebrities that sing RnB music. It will have gossip on their lives and fashion. The target audience of this magazine are teenagers both female and male. There is only one image on the front of the magazine. The image is off Melanie Fiona who is a pop-star that was part of a girl band called ‘The Pussy-cat Dolls’ .This girl band was an RnB group. It is placed on the right side of the magazine. It was placed here because it would be covering the name of the magazine as the name is place on the left. The image is large as this will attract the audience straight away especially females as it would be someone that teenage women might look up to. Melanie is wearing a blue dress; also we can see her hair has tint of blue in it. Melanie eye makeup is blue which suggests that the shot was planned as she wanted to be matching. This matches the font as the font is light blue. The background is white, which makes the magazine cover look elegant and not to flashy. This image relates to the target audience as it is off a young attractive girl that many teenagers can relate to.

The Magazine is called ‘RnB’. This is a good name as it tells the audience straight away what genre it is.The Masthead is on the top left corner. This is the name of the magazine. It is placed at the top because this will be the first thing that people see when they look at the front cover. ‘RnB’ is quite large as it is the name of the magazine. Also it is a different font to the rest of the contents on the page as the name of the magazine is most important. The Pop-star’s name is also quite large as  the audience will want to know who the image is off. The layout of RnB magazines are the same so the name will always be on the top left of the magazine. The straplines are in line with the title and the name of the magazine, this is a good thing as the magazine looks more professional, it doesn't look cluttered and confusing. By having the text in-line with the other texts makes it easier for the audience to read and understand what is going on. Even though the name ‘RnB’ is slang, the actual contents on the page is written in full English. This makes it clearer for the reader. The tagline suggest that the magazine is about music, many pop-stars lives and what they wear. The Barcode is at the bottom of the magazine on the right.

Preliminary task

I took many photos to put on the front cover of my school magazine. Then  i used photshop to create it.

I used the colour navy blue as this mathed the students top. I just kept the one colour as this would make the magazine more consitent.

I did some reserach to help me with the preliminary task, i looked at different college magzine covers.

Intro

I will be producing the front cover, contents page and double page spread for a new music magazine. Firstly i will be working on the preliminary task where i have to produce the front cover for a college magazine using a medium shot of a student. - i will plan my own music magazine and produce mock ups.
